- If you're making a turkey at home, remember fresh turkey is cooked at 350 degrees F at 15 minutes per pound. Defrosted turkey is cooked at 350 degrees F at 20 minutes per pound.
- Your turkey will cook more evenly if it is not densely stuffed.
- Your turkey is fully cooked when the temperature between the leg and thigh reads 180 degrees F and the breast reads 165 degrees F.
- Let your turkey stand for 20 minutes (covered in foil) before you start carving it to let the juices set.
- When you boil your potatoes in preparation to make mashed potatoes, peel and throw in a whole head of garlic. It will infuse your potatoes with a delicious garlic taste!
- When making butternut squash, cut them as evenly as you can into one inch cubes to ensure even cooking. Toss them with a little olive oil, sea salt and black pepper. Ten minutes before they are done cooking, toss in freshly julienned sage leaves and freshly chopped rosemary. Doing this too early in the cooking process will burn your herbs!
- Make the day of easier for yourself; chop your onion, garlic, carrots and celery a day or two earlier and store in air tight ziploc bags!
- Create a fall ambiance at home; throw on a simmering pot of water with orange rinds, cinnamon sticks, whole star anise and cloves. The smell is amazing!
- Have all your thanksgiving guests make a list of the top five things they are thankful for this year.
- Don’t forget to have fun! If it’s not perfect, it’s okay - don’t stress out. Enjoy the company of your family and friends!
